Cambodia confirms first COVID-19 cases in community

Cambodian doctors have identified the first cases of coronavirus infection in the country. As the Prime Minister of the Cambodian government, Hun Sen, said that the first 14 infected people had been identified on Monday, Report says, citing TASS.

"Cambodia detected the first coronavirus case in the capital, Phnom Penh, and in the North-Western province of Siem reap. Now, as a result of conducting 2,248 tests for COVID-19 in these regions over the past day, the number of infected people identified has reached 14, " the Xinhua News Agency quoted the head of government as saying. Hun Sen noted that all those who have contacted the infected must pass a 14-day quarantine at home or in quarantine centers.

It authorized local authorities to take immediate action to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

The first diagnosis of infection with the new coronavirus was made in Cambodia on January 27 to a 60-year-old Chinese citizen who flew with relatives from the Chinese city of Wuhan to the Cambodian seaside resort of Sihanoukville. Over the past period, only so-called imported cases of coronavirus infection were registered in the Kingdom, which reached 323. None of those infected died, and 301 people fully recovered.
