Nutritionist lists foods for healthy brain
Fish, eggs, and certain vegetables help support brain function, Report informs, citing Russian nutritionist, doctor of medical sciences Mikhail Ginzburg’s interview with Zvezda TV.
The specialist noted that fish is the most beneficial for the brain.
“There are a lot of omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary for building the membranes of nerve cells," the expert explained.
Eggs are also useful, he said, since the yolks contain a lot of phospholipids, which are necessary for building cell membranes.
Vegetables of bright colors, such as carrots, pumpkin, tomatoes, bell peppers are useful as well. They contain beta-carotene and carotenoids – they have a noticeable antioxidant effect, the doctor noted.
“Oranges and citrus fruits follow the vegetables, as they contain quercetin, a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that protects blood vessels and brain cells from damage,” the specialist added.
“Seasonings also have a positive effect on the brain. Turmeric, garlic, and pepper help protect brain cells from premature aging,” Ginzburg concluded.
