Dangerous consequences of drinking hot tea revealed

Doctors have disclosed the dangerous consequences of drinking hot tea, Report informs referring to the Turkish Cumhuriyet newspaper.

Observation of 500,000 people showed that for several years, regular consumption of hot tea at temperatures above 65 degrees increases the risk of developing esophageal cancer.

Gastroenterology specialist Professor Vedat Geral clarified that this cancer is the sixth cause of death in the world.

"It has a genetic basis, but trigger factors are also possible. According to studies, in the east of Turkey, in China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, due to the frequent consumption of tea and hot drinks, esophageal cancer is observed very often," he said.

If a person smokes and drinks alcohol, the risk of developing the disease increases, Geral added.

"If a smoker often drinks hot tea, then the risk of developing cancer doubles, and if he or she also drinks alcohol, the risk increases five times," the specialist said.

It’s better not to drink tea if the glass cannot be taken in hand due to its temperature. It is best to wait three-four minutes before drinking the brewed tea. The doctor advises against drinking more than three-four cups of tea a day.
