WHO calls global coronavirus situation alarming

Melita Vujnovic, WHO Representative in Russia, has called the coronavirus situation in the past two weeks alarming, Report informs with reference to TASS.

According to the WHO, the number of infection cases has been rising for seven weeks in a row, and `an increase in the number of deaths has been observed over the past four weeks.

"These are alarming trends as we continue to see the impact of the new coronavirus variants, the lifting of restrictive measures, and the inequitable introduction of the vaccine between countries," said Vujnovic.

She added that WHO continues to recommend paying attention to risk assessment and safety measures when traveling internationally.

The WHO representative also stressed that the situation with the new, worrying coronavirus variants is rapidly evolving.

More than 141.4 million people globally have contracted the virus since the onset of the pandemic. The deadly pathogen has claimed over 3.02 million lives, though unable to cope with 120.1 million patients, who managed to recover.
