Vaccination is mandatory for university students, majority of private, public sector employees in Azerbaijan

Employees of almost all public and private enterprises, as well as university students in Azerbaijan, are now obliged to get vaccinated against coronavirus. From October 2021, only persons over 18 years of age who have shown a COVID passport will be admitted to catering establishments, hotels, and shopping centers.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has amended the resolution “On measures to extend the special quarantine regime and remove some restrictions”. According to these changes, vaccination in Azerbaijan will practically become compulsory.

Unvaccinated students will not be able to attend lessons

According to the new decree of the Cabinet of Ministers, all persons over 18 years old studying in higher and secondary specialized educational institutions must obtain a COVID passport. The academic year in Azerbaijan begins on September 15.

The COVID passport in Azerbaijan was introduced in June 2021 and is issued in two types.

Everyone who receives both doses of the coronavirus vaccine receives a vaccination certificate. The validity period of this type of certificate is unlimited.

Those who have had coronavirus in the past six months receive a certificate of immunity. This document is valid for six months from the date of recovery. After six months, holders of such certificates must get vaccinated with the first dose of vaccine.

Covid passport to enter a shopping center

From September 1, 2021, at least 80% of employees of all government agencies, as well as all public and private enterprises whose work is related to serving the public, must receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and from October 1, the second dose of the vaccine, or obtain a COVID-19 immunity certificate.

From September 1, 2021, persons over 18 years of age can use indoor services only if they have a COVID-19 passport. These establishments include catering establishments, hotels, and shopping centers.

Also, from September 1, the services of hairdressers and beauty salons can only be used upon the presentation of a vaccination certificate.

What if one cannot get vaccinated?

Those who cannot get the coronavirus vaccine due to health conditions will soon be issued a special withdrawal certificate with a QR code, the Azerbaijani government noted.
