Car with Russian servicemen crashes in Armenia

A serviceman of the Russian military base in Armenia was killed, and four servicemen were wounded in an accident on the Gyumri-Yerevan highway on Sunday morning, Report informs citing the press service of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation.

"On August 8, at about 7:00 a.m. (GMT+4), an accident involving servicemen of the Russian military base stationed on the territory of Armenia occurred on the Gyumri-Yerevan highway near the settlement of Talin," reads the statement.

According to preliminary data, a contract serviceman lost control of his personal car, as a result of which the vehicle overturned into a ditch.

"As a result of the road traffic accident, one contract serviceman died on the scene from his injuries. Four contract servicemen who were in the car were promptly taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, where they were provided with all the necessary medical care," noted the message.

The command of the military unit, together with law enforcement agencies, is conducting an investigation into the accident, the press service said.
