Latvian President pays respect to National Leader Heydar AliyevThe US Department of Defense announced on August 27 that three military installations will begin taking Afghan refugees soon, Report informs, citing foreign media.
"Today, the Department of Defense has authorized Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia; Fort Pickett, Virginia and Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico to provide additional support for the mission to evacuate Afghan special immigrant visa applicants, their families and other at-risk individuals," Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said at a news conference.
These military installations join Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Fort Bliss, Texas; and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey to provide temporary housing and support for up to 50,000 vulnerable Afghans, Kirby said.
“We are following through on America’s commitment to vulnerable Afghans and Afghan nationals who have helped us,” Lt. Gen. Brad Webb, commander of Air Education and Training Command, said. “We are honored to provide the essential support where they and their families can complete processing safely.”
