Azerbaijan, Russia sign accord to strengthen cultural, spiritual ties

The Azerbaijani State University of Culture and Arts and the Russia-based Center for Islamic Studies have signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen Azerbaijani-Russian cultural and spiritual ties.

The document was signed by the deputy chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of the Russian Federation, director of the Center for Islamic Studies at St. Petersburg State University Damir Mukhetdinov, and the rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Doctor of Art History Jeyran Mahmudova.

During the meeting, Damir Mukhetdinov conveyed greetings from the spiritual leader of Russian Muslims Rawil Gaynutdinas well as the rector of St. Petersburg State University, professor Nikolai Kropachev.

He pointed out the centuries-old cultural and spiritual ties between the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan.

The memorandum intends to strengthen these ties and pass on to the younger generations the experience of cooperation and cultural exchange.

The memorandum also focuses on promoting Nizami Ganjavi's legacy among the youth in Russia.

In general, the document aims to study the cultural heritage of the Eurasian Muslim peoples. It also contributes to strengthening humanitarian contacts, including projects aimed at rapprochement and dialogue of cultures for the target student audience.

Azerbaijan shares data on number of vaccinated citizens

Some 30,619 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Azerbaijan on Oct. 16, Trend reports referring to the Operational Headquarters under the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers.

The first dose of the vaccine was injected into 12,186 citizens, and the second one to 18,433 citizens.

Totally, up until now, 9,168,970 citizens have been vaccinated, 4,954,189 of whom received the first dose of the vaccine, and 4,214,781 people – the second dose.

Azerbaijan confirms 1,681 more COVID-19 cases, 675 recoveries

Azerbaijan has detected 1,681 new COVID-19 cases, 675 patients have recovered, and 12 patients have died, Trendreports citing the Operational Headquarters under Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers.

Up until now, 500,311 people have been infected with coronavirus in the country, 477,639 of them have recovered, and 6,746 people have died. Currently, 15,926 people are under treatment in special hospitals.

To reveal the COVID-19 cases, 13,168 tests have been carried out in Azerbaijan over the past day, and a total of 5,014,141 tests have been conducted so far.

Muslims are all together sympathetic with Azerbaijan, Trend reports referring to the statement of Nasser Abdul Kareem, Palestinian Ambassador to Azerbaijan.

“As a human being first and a Muslim and a citizen of Palestine, I’m happy that this post-war time would be a new beginning for peace in this region. I think the reconstruction work done in the region is very impressive. I hope this would be an opening of a new era, continuous prosperity of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani people, and the whole region,” he said.

On October 16, a visit of representatives of the diplomatic corps in Azerbaijan and local media to Sugovushan, liberated from Armenian occupation, was organized.
