Pakistan has always supported a political solution to the protracted conflict in Afghanistan, Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee said at an event dedicated to the 74th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, Report informs.
He noted that Pakistan is the border country most affected by the ongoing actions in Afghanistan.
Hayee also said that Pakistan temporarily closed the border with Afghanistan, but now the border is open.
“Our main goal and expectation is to prevent uncontrolled illegal migration and cross-border movement. Pakistan remains committed to mediating reconciliation in Afghanistan. Pakistan hosted refugees from Afghanistan in the past. Of course, if necessary, Pakistan will do everything possible to help Afghan refugees. However, we believe that the parties in Afghanistan will be able to find a viable and mutually beneficial solution because peace in Afghanistan means peace in both Central Asia and South Asia,” he added.
