An urgent debate on the situation in Afghanistan may take place within the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will be held at the end of September in Strasbourg, according to the press service of the organization, Report informs referring to TASS.
An urgent debate was requested on the situation in Afghanistan, as well as concerning the increased migration pressure on the borders of Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland with Belarus, as well as on a new draft protocol to the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime, the PACE said in a statement.
The decision to hold an urgent debate, as well as a debate in the current format, is taken on the first day of work when the agenda of the session is approved. According to the PACE regulations, no more than two urgent debates and two current ones are supposed to be held during the session, so at least one of the ‘urgent’ topics will be rejected.
The PACE autumn session will be held Sept. 27-30 in Strasbourg. Due to the ongoing pandemic, it will be held in a hybrid format with a limited presence of parliamentarians on the ground. The main attention is planned to be paid to climate and environmental issues, but the agenda also includes debates on the consequences of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
