A brawl occurred in the Azerbaijani-populated Marneuli region of Georgia ahead of the October 2 local elections.
As the local bureau of Report says, there was a physical confrontation between the candidates of the ruling Georgian Dream Party and the opposition United National Movement (UNM), Rovshan Isgandarov and Lasha Kveladze respectively.
As the UNM representative Murad Muradov told reporters, the incident occurred after the election campaign in Sadakhlo village.
“Currently, Lasha Kveladze is filing a complaint with the police. He was injured and has injuries to his eyes and other parts of his body. Another member of the party, Misha Okupashvili, was also injured.”
MP Zaur Dargalli of Georgian Dream for Marneuli-Gardabani blamed the opposition party for the brawl. He said that Kveladze beat Isgandarov.
“This is another and expected provocation of the opposition. Rovshan Isgandarov was hospitalized. His condition is moderate and he may need surgery.”
The parliamentarian said that an investigation was launched into the incident.
