The issue of compensation to Azerbaijan for the damage caused by the Armenian occupation is absolutely legitimate and should be put forward for discussion, military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko told Report's Russian bureau.
The expert assessed the scale of the destruction that Armenians have committed over thirty years in the then-occupied territories of Azerbaijan: "It is obvious that compensation for the damage should be around $100 billion since almost everything was destroyed in Karabakh. Of course, Armenian lobbyists, as well as the Armenian diaspora in Western countries, will sabotage by applying appropriate political pressure to the countries and governments where they operate."
According to the Russian expert, in terms of international law, this problem must be worked out, put forward, and achieved through the joint efforts of the international community so that Armenia compensates Azerbaijan for the damage from all the destruction committed by the occupiers: "In order to raise this problem, legitimize and achieve appropriate solutions in international instances, the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and legal services of Azerbaijan is needed."
