The European Union has reached the limit of its capabilities in terms of financial sanctions against Russia, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said, Report informs, referring to foreign media.
"As for financial sanctions, of course, one can always go further, but we have already reached the limits of what we can do. We have done everything we could," Borrell said in an interview with Franceinfo.
According to him, the talk is about massive sanctions that led to the fall of the Russian currency by 40%, RIA Novosti reports.
"These are very heavy sanctions that will put a heavy burden on the Russian economy," the head of European diplomacy added.
He noted that sanctions related to the ban on the export of high technologies in the industrial and other sectors of the economy have become painful for Russia.
