The visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to Azerbaijan is an important step in realizing the great potential of cooperation between the countries, independent Kyrgyz political researcher and security expert Nurbek Bekmurzaev told Report.
“The trade turnover between our countries is only $100 million, which is not enough, especially for countries such as Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, which have a lot in common in cultural, linguistic and historical terms and a great potential for social and economic cooperation. In this regard, this visit is very important as the first and fundamental step in realizing the great potential of cooperation. Important strategic documents were signed that create a framework for the development of cooperation and determine the vectors in which it will be carried out. These are trade, investments and educational projects,” Bekmurzaev said.
The most important of the signed documents was the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, which “gives a sign that the intentions of the two states are serious,” the expert noted.
“Judging by the signed documents and the priorities and capabilities of the two states, intensification of cooperation in the economic and social spheres is expected,” Bekmurzaev said.
He noted that Azerbaijan is interesting for Kyrgyzstan as a supplier of fuels and lubricants, which will diversify the market and somehow resolve the issue of dependence on Russia. Also, Sadyr Japarov called on Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in mining, hydro-energy and agricultural sectors, the expert reminded.
“In turn, Kyrgyzstan can export textile and agricultural products to Azerbaijan,” the expert stressed.
