Children's Rights Month has been announced in Azerbaijan.
Report informs that Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, has made an appeal in this regard.
The appeal reads:
The protection of children's rights, their development, and comprehensive care are integral parts and main principles of the state child policy in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
An important international legal instrument, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 20, 1989, defines standards for ensuring children's rights and imposes obligations on State Parties.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the ratification of the Convention by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Relevant measures have been taken towards improvement of the legal framework and institutional structure, on the protection of children for the purpose of implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and execution of the recommendations given by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child on the periodical reports of the state.
Protection and promotion of children's rights, as well as prevention of violation of such rights, learning the situation of ensuring those rights in the country, and restoration of violated rights constitute one of the main directions of the activity of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In this regard, in 2022, as every year at this time, on the eve of the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Ombudsman declares October 20-November 20 as "Child Rights Month".
The aim of this month-long campaign is to promote attention and care to children by involving relevant bodies, to prevent ill-treatment and violence against them, to increase awareness in this field, and to achieve effective protection and promotion of children's rights.
Within the frame of this month, state and local self-government bodies, civil society, and other relevant institutions organize roundtables, training and seminars, campaigns, exhibitions, competitions, carry out research and hold other events on children's rights.
Considering the above, I invite all relevant institutions to join "Child Rights Month" and call them for organizing legal awareness and campaigning events on child rights, especially on the treatment of children and conducting research in this field within the framework of the month.
I strongly believe that by joining our efforts we will contribute to the protection and development of children, as well as ensuring their rights in the country.
