“We appreciate the assistance of our Azerbaijani brothers during the occupation of Erzurum,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a meeting with residents of Erzurum.
He recalled that Erzurum was occupied in 1916:
“13,000 people were killed during the occupation. The world community did not see it. The massacres committed by Armenians in that period have not been forgotten.”
Erdogan also noted that Erzurum was freed from occupation under Kazim Gara Bekir Pasha 2 years later.
