The AY.4.2 mutation, which is spreading rapidly among the population in Russia, is more contagious than the Delta strain of the coronavirus. However, the severity of the disease has not been proven yet, Vusala Yashar, an infectious disease specialist at TABIB's working group on infectious diseases, told Report.

She said that the immunity of a person vaccinated against coronavirus begins to weaken after 6 months: “In this case, we can be defenseless against the disease. Therefore, we strongly recommend that the third dose be given, especially to those at risk. After the third dose, it may be possible to inject the fourth dose even after consulting a doctor."

The TABIB official insisted on taking precautionary measures to prevent contraction: “Moreover, people should also lead a healthy lifestyle. For this, it is necessary to eat properly, follow the rules of hygiene, maintain social distance, and use masks indoors. Despite the increase in the number of infections in Azerbaijan, the situation is under control compared to many countries. Vaccines used in the country are effective against new mutations. We are one of the lucky countries for the variety of vaccines against the virus. We have a choice. Some vaccines have been shown to be effective against new mutations. However, in the current situation, it is necessary for citizens to be vaccinated more intensively, to speed up vaccination with the booster dose."
