Latvian Orthodox Church leaves Moscow Patriarchate

The Saeima (Parliament) of Latvia approved the draft law on the departure of the Latvian Orthodox Church from the Moscow Patriarchate, Report informs via Delfi news agency.

The draft law submitted by the country's President Egils Levits was urgently reviewed.

As Artuss Kaimiņš, chairman of the Human Rights and Public Affairs Commission of the Saeima, noted, this law will "ensure the historical independence" of the Latvian Orthodox Church.
