“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” a club spokesperson said.
The case stems from 115 charges brought against City in February 2023 following a four-year Premier League investigation. The allegations cover several categories of financial and regulatory rules, including requirements to provide accurate financial information and details of player and manager payments, compliance with UEFA financial regulations, the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, and cooperation with the league’s investigation.
The charges concerning financial information cover the period from the 2009-10 through 2017-18 seasons, while the alleged failure to cooperate with the Premier League investigation relates to the period from December 2018 to February 2023.
Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and previously said they had a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” supporting their position.
The club’s 12-week hearing before the independent commission began in September 2024 and concluded in December of that year.
The commission has not yet announced any punishment. Potential sanctions under the Premier League’s disciplinary framework can include financial penalties, points deductions, suspension or expulsion from the league, although the eventual outcome will depend on the disciplinary process and any appeal.
City have won eight Premier League titles since Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group took over the club in 2008, along with their first Champions League title in 2023. The club are currently leading the Premier League after winning their opening five matches of the season.
The reported verdict marks the latest development in a case that has remained unresolved for more than three years since the Premier League announced the charges in February 2023.
