The “Super Intelligence Force” will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton and is expected to deliver its findings within 120 days. Reuters also reported the formation of the task force, citing the Wall Street Journal and Clayton, Anadolu Agency reported.
The group will examine existing laws and consider potential legislative steps Congress could take while working with the technology industry to identify emerging AI risks and opportunities.

Its mandate includes developing plans to address threats associated with advanced AI while avoiding regulations that could restrict innovation and competition. The task force will also review how AI-related breaches, hacks, model jailbreaks and other incidents are reported to the government and recommend ways to strengthen the federal response under existing authorities.
Clayton’s role effectively makes him the Trump administration’s AI czar, according to a senior White House official cited by the Wall Street Journal.
The task force was formed after President Donald Trump met Tuesday with senior technology executives, including OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
The meeting followed an agreement between major US technology companies and the Trump administration on voluntary AI safeguards. The measures include internal controls for monitoring AI development and independent reviews of AI systems.
Trump has emphasized maintaining US leadership in advanced AI while favoring voluntary industry safeguards rather than tighter government regulation. The new task force is expected to examine whether additional federal action is necessary as the technology continues to develop.
The administration has also highlighted the importance of ensuring the US remains competitive in advanced AI, while the task force will assess potential national security, cybersecurity and other risks associated with increasingly capable systems.
