The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to develop BYD Flash Charge stations across Kazakhstan. The agreement was signed by Astana Motors CEO Beknur Nessipbayev and BYD Central Asia CEO Ivan Cao.
The memorandum was signed on July 16 during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev and BYD senior management in China. The meeting took place during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to the country.

The first phase of the project will focus on Almaty, before the charging network expands to other major cities and key transportation corridors across Kazakhstan.
The companies said the infrastructure is designed to improve access to high-speed charging and support the continued expansion of electric mobility in the country.
BYD unveiled its Flash Charge technology at Auto China 2026 earlier this year. The system is designed for the company’s next-generation battery technology and can reportedly charge an EV from 10% to 90% in about nine minutes.
The technology is also designed to operate in extreme cold. At temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, charging to 90% takes approximately 12 minutes, according to the companies.
Flash Charge stations can deliver up to 1,500 kilowatts of power and incorporate energy storage systems intended to allow ultra-fast charging without placing excessive strain on the electricity grid.
The rollout comes as BYD expands its presence in Kazakhstan. Official sales of BYD vehicles in the country began in January 2025, with Astana Motors serving as the brand’s official distributor.
BYD currently has 20 dealerships across 13 Kazakh cities, and the planned charging network is expected to strengthen the infrastructure supporting the growing number of electric vehicles on the country’s roads.
