The fire erupted at the Safe company’s facility in the Gandrange industrial zone in the Moselle department, prompting a major emergency response.
Nearly 100 firefighters and around 50 emergency vehicles were deployed to the site, according to local authorities.

The fire involved a warehouse covering about 500 square meters (5,382 square feet). Authorities confirmed the presence of toxic substances at the industrial site.
As a precaution, residents in five municipalities — Gandrange, Amneville, Vitry-sur-Orne, Clouange and Rombas — were ordered to “remain confined until further notice.”
People in the affected areas were told to stay inside, keep doors and windows closed and seal openings as much as possible to limit exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
A large plume of black smoke was visible above the industrial site from around 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT).
Authorities continued emergency operations at the site while monitoring the potential impact of the fire and any toxic substances released into the surrounding area.
