The Blackhawks announced the deal on Wednesday, marking a reunion with the 37-year-old winger who helped lead the team to three Stanley Cup championships after being selected first overall in the 2007 NHL Draft, News.Az reports, citing ESPN.
Kane spent 16 seasons in Chicago, becoming one of the most decorated players in franchise history. He ranks second all-time in Blackhawks points with 1,225, trailing only Hall of Famer Stan Mikita, while also sitting third in goals and games played for the Original Six club.

“Day in and day out for 16 seasons, Patrick captivated the city of Chicago with his dazzling skill,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said, adding that the organization is proud to welcome Kane back to the United Center.
After being traded to the New York Rangers in 2023 as Chicago entered a rebuilding phase, Kane spent the past three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings on consecutive one-year contracts. He recorded 16 goals and 41 assists in 67 games last season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Reports suggested Kane considered returning to Chicago or signing with his hometown Buffalo Sabres. He ultimately chose to reunite with the Blackhawks, where he is expected to join forces with franchise cornerstone Connor Bedard for the first time.
Bedard, who recently signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension, had publicly expressed his desire to see Kane return, calling the possibility “incredible” and saying he looked forward to learning from the veteran star.
Entering his 20th NHL season, Kane has totaled 1,400 career points and 508 goals, ranking among the league’s active scoring leaders as he begins the next chapter of his career back in Chicago.
