According to the Kumamoto Prefectural Police, the victim was found inside a collapsed house in Yatsushiro City and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, News.Az reports, citing Xinhua.
The earthquake struck at around 4:27 p.m. local time in Kumamoto Prefecture, located in the central part of Japan’s Kyushu island.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake registered the maximum intensity of 7 on the country’s seismic intensity scale in the hardest-hit areas.
