“Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was snorkeling with her husband and two sons near the southern point of the island when a strong current reportedly swept both children away,” the police account said, according to Bahamas Press.

The mother was swept away as she attempted to reach the boys near Bimini. Rescuers later pulled her from the water and brought her to the North Bimini Ferry Dock, where CPR was administered, according to police.
Officers at the Alice Town Police Station received a report shortly after 10 a.m. that a woman was unresponsive at the dock. When officers arrived, they learned she had already been taken to a local clinic, police said.
A doctor pronounced her dead despite efforts to save her. Police said an autopsy would help determine the exact cause of death.
