“At a time when our region is going through a critical period, we paid an important visit to Syria,” Fidan said in a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Anadolu Agency reported.
During the first day of his visit, Fidan was received by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and held talks with Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Interior Minister Anas Khattab.

Fidan said the discussions reaffirmed Ankara and Damascus’ shared commitment to preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and supporting efforts to achieve peace and prosperity for the Syrian people.
“We discussed the visit our president will pay to Damascus,” Fidan said, referring to Erdogan’s planned trip.
On the second day, Fidan met representatives of Syria’s ethnic Turkmen community, describing them as an integral part of Syrian society. He said Syrian Turkmen had played an important role in the struggle against the Baath regime and continued to contribute to efforts to build a stable and prosperous Syria.
During his visit to Damascus, Fidan also visited the tombs of prominent historical figures Ibn Arabi, Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi and Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, along with the Turkish Air Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Sulaymaniyah Complex.
Fidan said the delegation observed signs of renewed normalcy in the Syrian capital.
“During our two-day visit, we saw that the streets of Damascus are becoming peaceful and lively again,” he said.
He added that Türkiye welcomed the Syrian people’s efforts to build, through their own will, a secure, stable and prosperous country that includes all segments of society.
“We will continue to stand by Syria throughout this process,” Fidan said.
