There are major delays at the New York area’s three major airports, JFK, LaGuardia and Newark, as well as at the airports in Philadelphia and Boston, a problem that is expected to continue for several hours, Sweden Herald reported.

The problems are worst in Philadelphia and Newark, and planes heading there are being diverted to airports that can accommodate them, NBC News reports.
The delays are also creating further problems for other parts of US air traffic.
A cable that was accidentally destroyed during construction has taken part of the air traffic control system out of service, which has halted parts of the traffic.
“It’s very extensive,” says Bryan Bedford, head of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), about the work to repair the cable.
