The sheer ferocity of the daytime bombardment caught the city in a vice. Among the 14 wounded, nine people—including a 17-year-old boy—were rushed to local hospitals. Doctors report that two of the victims remain in critical condition fighting for their lives. The casualties also included two emergency medical workers who were targeted while trying to treat those injured in earlier blasts.

The Desnianskyi district bore the initial brunt of the daytime attack. Around noon, a drone plummeted out of the sky and exploded violently near a critical gas distribution station. Just an hour later, another drone smashed directly into a three-story commercial building near a bustling local market, burying workers under tons of concrete. Rescuers digging through the debris recovered two bodies from the rubble.
By late afternoon, the horror shifted to a densely populated residential area. At approximately 5:30 p.m., a drone slammed directly into the 16th floor of a 25-story apartment building, triggering a massive, fast-moving blaze that trapped residents upstairs. Firefighters braved the smoke to evacuate families, miraculously pulling a young child with facial lacerations from the wreckage just in time.
The day-long siege capped off an incredibly brutal 24 hours for the capital. Just hours prior, Russia had launched a surprise ballistic missile strike in the dead of night. The missiles arrived with such extreme speed that the first deafening explosions echoed across the city before air defense sirens could even be triggered, setting warehouses ablaze and tearing through non-residential complexes.
With rescue operations still underway into the evening, exhausted first responders continue to search the ruins of civilian infrastructure, bracing for what could be another long night under fire.
