One of the most eye-catching courses in the curriculum is titled “How to Become an Influencer.” Other classes cover on-camera presentation, video editing, videography, podcasting and digital audiences.
Students will also complete a content-creation capstone project as well as professional development courses aimed at preparing them for careers in the rapidly changing digital media industry.
Arizona State University describes the creator economy as the expanding industry built around individuals and businesses that produce and monetize digital content.
Graduates could pursue careers in digital influencing, brand development, content strategy and audience engagement, according to the university.
The program is offered in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as Los Angeles and online, making it accessible to students outside the university’s main campus.
Arizona State is not alone in responding to the growing influence of digital creators.
Syracuse University is launching a creator-economy minor this fall combining communications, business and entrepreneurship courses, while St. Bonaventure University already offers a content creation major.
