Addressing the event, Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), highlighted Vagif’s rich literary heritage. “Vagif’s poems glorify the beauty of nature and love for humanity. His legacy bridges our shared history across generations. One of our key missions is to keep alive the memory of such great masters of words as Vagif, Samad Vurghun, Khagani Shirvani, Mahammadhuseyn Shahriyar and Ashig Alasgar,” he said.
People’s Poet Vahid Aziz shared his memories of the Vagif Poetry Days, emphasizing that the event is turning into a larger, more impactful gathering with every successive year.
Chairman of the Press Council, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union Rashad Majid noted that following the glorious Victory, the Vagif Poetry Days have been celebrated with growing solemnity with each passing year. “The poetry festival, which was held annually until 1991, traditionally started in the poet’s homeland, Gazakh, wrapping up in the mysterious Jidir Duzu plain in Shusha. After the liberation of Shusha from occupation as a result of the glorious Victory achieved by the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Vagif Poetry Days began to be hosted in the city of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
The event also featured the awards ceremony for the 2nd Turkic World Young Poets Festival, organized in partnership with TURKSOY.
The cultural program included a stage performance titled “The Hunter of the Word – My Heart Passes Through Karabakh,” dedicated to the 120th anniversary of People’s Poet Samad Vurghun.”
The event continued with a concert program.
The poetry festival, kicked off on July 16 in the Gazakh district, the Motherland of Molla Panah Vagif, will conclude on July 18 in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Shusha.
