The small island has appeared off the coast of Stafa, a town on the eastern shore of Lake Zurich. Under normal water levels, only a rock known as the Stafner Stein is visible at the location, Anadolu Agency reported.
The lake’s water level currently stands at 405.24 meters above sea level, allowing the previously submerged land to emerge above the surface.

Although relatively small, the newly visible formation is large enough for a small boat to moor alongside it and for visitors to stop for a picnic.
The island was last visible in 1952, when Lake Zurich experienced its previous major low water level. It had also emerged in 1909 during another period of exceptionally low water levels.
The unusually low water has also revealed a historical water-level mark on the Stafa stone. The mark, which records the level reached in 1909, had remained underwater for decades.
The island is expected to remain visible for some time, as the lake could take a while to return to its usual level.
No prolonged period of rain is currently forecast, meaning the rare land formation could remain above the surface for the near future.
