The company is taking advantage of concerns surrounding the US renewable energy sector to expand its project portfolio, Reuters reports.

Speaking during a briefing on TotalEnergies’ energy outlook, Pouyanne described the US renewable energy market as “promising” despite an impending reduction in federal policy support.
A US tax law enacted in 2025 accelerated the phase-out of tax credits for wind and solar energy projects. Under the legislation, most new projects must have begun construction by July 2026 or enter service by the end of 2027 to qualify for the incentives.
Pouyanne said renewable energy developers, including TotalEnergies, have been accelerating projects to take advantage of the remaining tax benefits.
The French energy company has also intensified its focus on wind energy, acquiring additional projects as other developers reconsider their investments.
“Since everyone is anxious, it’s a good market for us,” Pouyanne said.
He noted that some developers fear the US renewable energy market could collapse around 2028 or 2030, creating opportunities for TotalEnergies to acquire projects currently under development and oversee their construction.
Pouyanne added that TotalEnergies is spending slightly more in the United States than initially planned, partly because renewable energy projects in the country are generally larger than comparable developments in Europe.
