The proposed package includes 48 F-35 aircraft and 49 Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 engines, as well as cryptographic equipment, electronic warfare support, training and logistics services, Anadolu Agency reported.
The State Department said the proposed sale would support US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the security of Saudi Arabia, which Washington describes as a major non-NATO ally.

The department said the deal would contribute to “political stability and economic progress” in the Gulf and would not alter the military balance in the region.
The proposed sale would also not require additional US government or contractor personnel to be stationed in Saudi Arabia, according to the notification.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, based in Fort Worth, Texas, and Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, based in East Hartford, Connecticut, would be the principal contractors for the package.
Under US law, Congress has 30 calendar days from the formal notification to review the proposed arms sale and potentially object before the administration can finalize the agreement.
