Crystal Palace made an energetic start against Manchester City, creating several early openings as the visitors were forced to defend under pressure.
Palace threatened within the opening two minutes when Wharton played a through ball into the inside-right channel for Eddie Nketiah, whose low effort was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma at the near post.

The hosts continued to push forward and won another corner before Mitchell fired a second effort wide from outside the box.
Manchester City gradually began to respond and came close in the seventh minute. A corner from the left eventually fell to Anderson, whose effort from the edge of the box produced an excellent save.
The danger did not end there. Erling Haaland tried to finish from close range during the resulting scramble, but Palace defenders managed to get their blocks in and clear the ball.
City then threatened again when Antoine Semenyo drove forward from the left and sent the ball across the face of goal, with Phil Foden narrowly missing the chance to get a decisive touch.
Palace responded with two attempts to break down the right, but could not get behind City’s defence.
The hosts then came close to slicing through City again as Strand Larsen held up possession during a counterattack. However, he could not release the through ball as Nketiah surged beyond him.
The match remained goalless after 14 minutes, with both sides already showing attacking intent in an open and fast-paced start.
