The investment adds another major technology partnership to a project aimed at expanding the computing infrastructure needed to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, Reuters reported.
SB Energy is developing the Ohio data center as part of the broader push to build large-scale facilities capable of handling the enormous computing demands of advanced AI systems. Nvidia, whose graphics processors have become a key component of AI data centers, is increasingly involved not only in supplying chips but also in supporting the infrastructure surrounding them.

The $1.5 billion investment underscores the scale of the capital flowing into AI infrastructure as companies race to secure enough computing capacity for increasingly powerful models.
SoftBank, led by Masayoshi Son, has been expanding its involvement in AI infrastructure and has established increasingly close ties with OpenAI. Nvidia’s investment in SB Energy further connects the chipmaker to that expanding ecosystem.
The Ohio project is part of a much larger buildout of AI data centers in the United States, where technology companies and infrastructure providers are investing billions of dollars in new computing capacity.
For Nvidia, the deal also highlights how its role in the AI boom is extending beyond the sale of its high-performance processors. As demand for AI computing continues to surge, access to power, data centers and other infrastructure has become just as critical to the industry’s expansion.
The investment comes as Nvidia remains at the center of the global AI infrastructure race, with its chips powering many of the world’s largest AI systems.
