Television footage showed thick columns of black smoke rising from the affected area as police officers cleared nearby streets to facilitate emergency operations.
Several explosions, believed to involve gas cylinders, were heard during the fire.
Pradeep Kumar, a senior fire service official, confirmed that emergency responders had discovered a large number of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at the site.
“We have found a large number of LPG cylinders inside. We are currently addressing this issue and conducting search and rescue operations to check whether anyone is trapped,” Kumar said.
Firefighters continued searching the affected premises to determine whether any additional people were trapped.
The cause of the fire remained unknown, and authorities had not immediately established the full extent of the damage.
