Barrack, who also serves as the US special envoy for Syria and Iraq, was commenting on Israel’s attack on the Abu al-Duhur Military Air Base in eastern Idlib province, Anadolu Agency reported.
He said he did not know why Israel carried out the strike but explained the information that had been presented to Washington.

According to Barrack, Israel had received intelligence suggesting that Türkiye might be moving military assets to the Syrian air base and had shared that information with the US.
Washington investigated the claim, Barrack said, and found no evidence to support it.
“We consulted our intelligence agencies, and the answer we received was that this claim was not true,” he said in a social media post.
Barrack added that there may have been “a miscommunication” between the Israeli army, Mossad and the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He stressed that neither Washington nor Ankara had been informed about the planned attack in advance.
Barrack praised the Turkish military as “strong and brave,” describing it as well-equipped and highly capable.
Netanyahu and his office had previously claimed that Turkish soldiers were attempting to establish a presence at the base and deploy military installations farther south.
Israeli warplanes carried out strikes on the abandoned Abu al-Duhur Military Air Base in eastern Idlib, with a Syrian official saying the site was attacked eight times.
The strikes targeted the runway and an inactive structure inside a hangar, according to the Syrian official.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries from the attack.
