A serious overnight fire broke out in a multi-story residential building in Baku
A serious fire broke out at a multi-story residential building located at 10 Babek Avenue, leaving residents in a vulnerable and chaotic situation as flames spread through the structure.
Preliminary information indicates that the building’s basement and areas up to the second floor had been operating as a bathhouse and massage salon. Several residents say they had repeatedly raised concerns with authorities about the use of the space, but no action was taken.
Investigators suspect the blaze may have been triggered by an electrical system overload. Burning cables and wiring are believed to have generated dense smoke and toxic fumes, significantly complicating evacuation efforts.
Emergency units from the State Fire Protection Service were dispatched to the scene, working to extinguish the fire and evacuate residents. While the flames have been brought under control, the building has suffered extensive damage. Electricity to the complex has been cut off, and multiple entrances and apartments have been severely burned.
At present, many residents are displaced and have nowhere to return.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities say further details will be released as the inquiry progresses. AzeriTimes will continue to follow developments to ensure accountability and transparency.
