Baku, Azerbaijan — Azerbaijani authorities are moving forward with the sale of confiscated properties belonging to Selim Muslumov, the country’s former minister of labor and social protection, who was found guilty of embezzling millions of manats in public funds.
According to local media reports, two seized properties — a private residence and a commercial facility in central Baku — have been put up for sale with a combined starting price of approximately 1.376 million manats (about $810,000).
One of the properties is a 370.4-square-meter residential house located on Mirza Ibrahimov Street in Baku’s Yasamal district, listed at 926,250 manats. The second is a non-residential commercial property on Azadlig Avenue in the Sabail district, with a starting price of 450,000 manats.
The sale is part of a broader asset recovery effort tied to a corruption case that has drawn significant public attention. Authorities have already confiscated assets worth around 20 million manats from Mr. Muslumov. Last month, two additional apartments linked to the former minister were also offered for sale, with a combined value of roughly 490,000 manats.
Mr. Muslumov was arrested in 2021 by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service of Azerbaijan and later convicted of embezzling approximately 27 million manats. Officials said that because more than 20 million manats in damages to the state budget were repaid, he received a suspended sentence rather than prison time.
Authorities say asset recovery procedures connected to the case are continuing, as Azerbaijan seeks to reclaim misappropriated public funds and signal a tougher stance against high-level corruption.
