Investigators discovered a small antenna in a tree near the site of the incident. Authorities suspect the device may have been deliberately placed there by the attackers to strengthen the signal used to control an explosive-laden drone, RBC Ukraine reported.
Experts believe the antenna could have helped provide a stronger and less obstructed connection between the drone and its operator.

Investigators have also recovered several DNA traces from the scene and from the drone wreckage.
Some traces were reportedly found on a can containing explosives, while others were identified on the drone and near the crime scene. Investigators have found a potential match with DNA linked to another case, while another trace reportedly points toward Lithuania.
The drone itself appears to have been specially modified for the operation.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, it was equipped with an additional battery designed to extend its flight time. It reportedly had no navigation lights but carried a camera, a 5G router and two SIM cards connected to mobile networks.
Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office suspects the drone may have been controlled through a mobile network, potentially allowing it to be operated from a considerable distance.
The discovery of the antenna has therefore become a significant clue, as investigators believe it may have been intended to improve the drone’s connection while it approached the airport.
The investigation is also examining possible links to a wider network of attacks that German authorities believe may have involved Russian military intelligence.
Tagesschau reported similarities between the Leipzig incident and a network of recruited operatives in Lithuania, Poland and Germany who allegedly sent explosive devices, including by air.
Investigators suspect the network may have been directed by Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU. Explosive packages connected to the network reportedly caught fire at airports in Leipzig, Birmingham and Warsaw.
Several suspects are currently facing trial in Poland and Lithuania over the alleged attacks.
Investigators are also examining the activities of a young Ukrainian man who was reportedly recruited to carry out operations and later traveled to Germany. Authorities suspect he may have collected equipment for a Russian intelligence service, including drone components, specialized mounts and cans that could have been used in the operation.
The case has already drawn attention from US intelligence, which reportedly linked the incident involving the Ukrainian aircraft to Russia.
German authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are searching for additional evidence, including possible debris from a second drone.
The investigation has not publicly established final responsibility, but the newly discovered technical and forensic evidence is strengthening scrutiny of a possible Russian role in the attack.
